Willow House

This double-fronted Victorian house in Elsternwick has been given a second life thanks to designers Castley McCrimmon. While the past has been beautifully restored, a new contemporary wing has been added to allow for all the creature comforts.

Featuring a wrought iron veranda, extensive leadlight and a decorative arched hallway, this Victorian home has been thoughtfully restored by Castley McCrimmon Architects. While respecting the building's past, the brief also called for a contemporary family home that has been fully achieved by the designers.

Here, balanced against the stained parquetry floors and traditional timber panelling, new contemporary features include steel arched doors and generous glazing, expanded kitchen and living areas, together with a first floor extension to accommodate bedrooms.

To complement the pared back contemporary details and high ceilings, the designers specified the iconic Camaleonda sofa by B&B Italia in the living area, together with a Baxter Tebe table, and to add a soft glow to new areas of the home, they chose the classic Foscarini Bud lights in the bedrooms.

By bridging traditional and contemporary materials and details, Castley McCrimmon has created a series of finessed, generous spaces filled with light and sumptuous furniture to meet the daily needs of a young growing family.
