The recipient of a World’s Best Award from readers of Travel + Leisure magazine this year, the new Capella Sydney hotel involved the renewal of the former Department of Education, a grand heritage-listed Edwardian Baroque sandstone building in Sydney's CBD.
Designed by Bar Studio and Make Architects, the interiors, remark Bar Studio, 'embrace the existing built fabric and create a counterpoint to the once utilitarian interiors.’ The design approach by Bar Studio, who have had a long relationship with Space Furniture, weaves the building’s rational architecture with design gestures and furniture pieces to celebrate its origins. Timber and metal-framed portals define spaces, art and objects, and key contemporary furniture and lighting pieces from the Space collection provide a fresh perspective on its elegant history.
