Creating curvaceous forms in concrete for the Deakin Law School in Melbourne, the landmark building by Woods Bagot’s principal architect Bruno Mendes and his team received an Australian institute of Architects' Award for Educational Architecture.
Located on the university's Burwood Campus, the law school connects two parts of the site via a bridge, creating unusual sculptural forms in the process. 'The spaces are clearly delineated whether they are teaching or learning spaces, separated by the distinctive void that separates these functions,' remarks Sue Fenton, a senior associate with Woods Bagot.

Just as sculptural is Piero Lissoni’s Living Divani Extrasoft sofa selected for the breakout area, where students can feel like they’re in their own living areas at home. And because it’s a modular design, the sofa is easily reconfigured to suit informal catchup meetings for students and staff.
