Inside Sydney's Crown Residences

Inside Sydney's glittering Crown Residences designed by New York-based studio Meyer-Davis and described as a "home in the sky”, Space has worked closely with residents and the world’s best design brands to create richly layered interiors that respond to a breathtaking site and endless views.

Joining the One Barrangaroo team early on in the design process, Space Furniture has drawn on their knowledge and experience working with leading furniture brands and direct access to the latest finishes, textiles and fittings, to create personalised interiors for the Crown Residences. From new Milan Furniture Fair releases to design classics, each piece has been carefully selected to respond to detailed briefs developed with each client, and the colours, tones and finishes of the Meyer-Davis interiors.

"One of the things I find amazing about these apartments that is unique to Sydney, is the proportions and space that has been given to each residence. Nothing has been compromised,” remarks David Hartikainen, who headed up the project’s design team at Space. "You walk into an apartment and the 2.8 metre ceilings, floor to ceiling glass, very generous layouts, and it just feels lovely.”

The project involved furniture by celebrated designers and brands including Maxalto, B&B Italia, Edra, Giorgetti and Moooi, who brought with them experience furnishing luxurious hotels around the world. “In the last few years we have seen our brands collaborate on large hotel projects, like the Bvlgari Hotels and Resorts in Milan and Bali, the Aman Resorts in Venice and the Mondrian Doha in the Middle East”, remarks Hartikainen. "As brands and designers move into the hospitality market, residential and hotel interiors are becoming more and more aligned.”

While hotels and furniture brands continue to develop strong design collaborations, Space drew on that expertise for One Barangaroo, working closely with its furniture partners to produce highly detailed pieces and one-off designs. "We utilised the full depth of our collection to deliver an unsurpassed level of quality and detail, working closely to apply creative thinking in exciting ways,” remarks Hartikainen. "One design I will mention, is one I created with our partners at Edra. Together we designed a unique table that references the landscape of Barangaroo perfectly. It’s that level of collaboration we have with our brands that has been very exciting for us to offer our clients.”

It is the thoroughly integrated design approach across every single detail that gives each apartment its own, very personal feel. “Ensuring each interior is unique, and, above all, matches how the resident wants to live at One Barangaroo has been paramount,” Hartikainen reiterates. “We have been so lucky to work with a wonderful group of clients at Crown Residences who have all been incredibly lovely and fun to work with, and who placed their trust in Space."
