In 2012, Stellar Works was founded on an idea that brings East and West together, heritage and modernity, craft and industry. The brand's founding ambition was to inspire a renaissance in Asian aesthetics, taking forms and motifs that have shaped Japanese design for centuries, and distilling them through a European lens to create something new.
This vision is built into how Stellar Works crafts its furniture too. Every piece moves through three distinct traditions, including the strategic rigour of Japanese operations management, the high-end craftsmanship of French furniture-making, and the technical precision of the brand's Shanghai production team.
It would be easy for a company working across this many cultures and disciplines to end up with something disjointed, but Stellar Works' founders saw it differently—that the most enduring design doesn't erase difference, it holds it all in balance.
We would like to think that 100 years from now, our pieces will still be as contemporary and resonant as they are today and that Stellar Works will still be crafting quality furniture that is Asian in inspiration, cross-cultural in design and international in its scope.

East meets West: A design philosophy
For Stellar Works, the past isn't something to leave behind; it’s something to keep working with as they move forward. Across its collections, two principles run side by side—preserving design history and reinterpreting it for the present.
The brand's vintage lines keep the work of 20th-century greats such as Vilhelm Wohlert and Carlo Forcolini in active production, updated only where materials or manufacturing methods have improved. Alongside this, Stellar Works' contemporary signature collections draw from the same design lineage, such as Bauhaus references or the restraint of mid-century Scandinavian form, folded into the patterns and craft techniques of Asian design tradition.
Bespoke by design
Stellar Works starts every project from a blank page. At the centre of this capability is the brand's own workshop in Shanghai, where technicians, draftspeople and engineers of Chinese, French and Japanese backgrounds work side by side to deliver the same cross-cultural approach that shapes Stellar Works' collections into the making of bespoke furniture.
The process runs end-to-end, from the initial design specifications and technical drawings through quotation, prototyping, full-scale production and installation, supported by a standard five-year warranty on completed work. It's a level of integration that lets Stellar Works take on projects at any scale—from a single custom piece to the full furniture fit-out of a hotel.
This expertise is particularly well-suited to hotel and hospitality environments, where off-the-shelf solutions rarely tell the whole story. Stellar Works' bespoke furniture already features in hospitality spaces including the Langham Hotel London to Noma restaurant in Kyoto, among a growing list of hotel, hospitality and commercial projects worldwide. Custom design is core to how Stellar Works operates, and one of the clearest ways its cross-cultural design philosophy translates into a genuinely tailored outcome.
So how did the classical Latin become so incoherent? At first, McClintock claimed that a 15th century typesetter likely scrambled part of Cicero's De Finibus in order to provide placeholder text to mockup various fonts for a type specimen book.

Collaboration sits at the centre of everything Stellar Works produces. The brand works with an exceptional cross-section of international design talent, with a roster encompassing architecture studios, product designers and interior practices.
Among them, two celebrated Australian names, Tom Fereday and Nic Graham, bring a distinctly local voice to Stellar Works' global outlook. It's this depth and diversity of partnership that allows the brand to move fluidly between preserving design history and creating something fresh.
