Glas Italia
Compression Table
'Like fire and water, the marriage of glass and wood in a technological miracle.' - Philippe Starck
Series of rectangular dining tables with 19 mm transparent glass top and 24 mm tempered transparent glass base. A beam, made of a single thick wooden piece, passes through the inclined edged holes of the glass base sheets, uniting and supporting them. Polished chromed metal wedges are inserted into the tapered holes on the wooden beam, firmly holding the glass sheets of the base and giving the table maximum stability and solidity. The beam, in solid oak, is available in two natural finishes: deeply brushed and wax finished or charred through a heat treatment. The feet and top supports are in polished chromed metal.

Glas Italia
Founded by the Arosio family in Brianza, Italy, Glas Italia is based on glass craftsmanship and long-standing collaboration with designers Ettore Sottsass and Piero Lissoni. Described by Sottsass as one of the most open-minded industrialists he had ever worked with, Glas Italia specialises in producing large glass and crystal plates; all while inventing a system for producing coloured mirror plates.
Working with Sottsass, the group produced some of the most dynamic pieces using this new technology. Today the collection continues to be guided by colour and clarity. Our selection highlights Glas Italia craftsmanship and demonstrates the level of quality that makes the brand a natural fit at Space Furniture.
Philippe Starck
His first major project was the renovation of the Palais de l'Elysee at President Mitterrand's request, and in 1990 he transformed the Royalton and the Paramount in New York into a new hybrid called the 'boutique hotel'. His respect for humanity and the environment has also been recognised in France, where in 1995 he designed the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs in Paris and in 1997 the control tower of Bordeaux Airport Abroad, he continues to shake the traditions and culture of the world's major cities, with the interior design of the restaurant at Hong Kong's Peninsula Hotel, the Teatron in Mexico, the Delano Hotel a Miami the Modrian in Los Angeles, the Asia de Cuba restaurant in New York, as well as an entire series of ongoing projects in London and elsewhere. His skill lies in being able to transform instantly the object of the commission into a place filled with charm and pleasure. Starck's increasing fascination with life has led him to create clothes, underwear, footwear, glasses, food, and always with the conviction that his design respects nature and the future of humankind. Philippe Starck began his ongoing collaboration with Driade in 1985 and has since developed relationships with other Italian furniture manufacturers including Kartell and Cassina.
