'B&B Italia celebrates 20 years of Tufty-Time, a piece very dear to me. A new version designed with longevity in mind, a fundamental quality for a design approach that looks ahead.' – Patricia Urquiola
When the Tufty-Time sofa was first launched in 2005, designer Patricia Urquiola was inspired by the spirit of the classic Chesterfield and its capitonné tradition. The sofa’s soft pillowy form in interchangeable modules redefined flexibility, comfort and elegance to become one of B&B Italia’s biggest stars. To celebrate its 20th birthday in 2025, B&B Italia has released a new edition focused on circularity and even greater comfort, the Tufty-Time 20.
A standout sofa system for the brand, the revised design has fourteen super flexible seating modules, including a curved addition perfect for gatherings and conversation, volume padding, extra height for greater comfort, and the integration of recycled and sustainable materials engineered to be fully separated to ensure that all components can be given a second life. As Urquiola remarked, it’s a sofa that continues to have innovation and longevity in mind, ‘a fundamental quality for a design approach that looks ahead’.
By preserving its characteristics: modularity, enveloping comfort, and flexibility, and adding more generous padding in recycled materials, the new edition embraces the importance of circularity while celebrating the qualities that have made Tufty-Time a design icon.
