Bitossi in the raw, a limited edition collection

Collaborating for the first time with the celebrated Italian ceramist Bitossi, Space has launched a limited edition milk glaze finish across the iconic Rimini Blu series.

Bitossi and its internationally renowned works in clay take form in the ancient hilltop town of Montelupo Fiorentino in Tuscany where artisanal craftsmanship defines the region that hosts the annual Cèramica Festival.

Founded in the mid-1800s and now run by the family’s fifth generation, Bitossi focuses on Italy’s pottery traditions that include the ancient process of glazing with milk. Both an environmentally friendly way of sealing and a softly subtle way of decorating ceramic ware, it’s a technique that pays homage to the beautiful textures and colours of fired clay.

'We wanted to create a translucent milk glaze that highlights the natural patterns in clay,’ says Leonie Evans, Head of Retail Design, Space Furniture. ‘After a few experiments with Bitossi’s team of ceramicists, the final designs and their minute, dense patterns, present the group’s skilled craftsmanship in the raw,’ with each of the final designs a highly textural merry-go-round of abstract geometry overlayed with the milky glaze.

The Bitossi White limited edition collection is now available in-store and online.
