Glas Italia shapes a heritage transformation by Coy Yiontis
The remarkable transformation of a Victorian heritage home by Melbourne studio Coy Yiontis, involved peeling back a ‘noisy’ 1980s postmodern renovation and the complete reworking of the interior so it flows. Baxter opens a new chapter. Fabric joins the leather legacy
For over four decades, Baxter has been synonymous with one material above all others: leather. The Italian brand built its identity on the tradition and innovation of Italian leather production, making the material the hero of every collection. The origin story is now design folklore: the brand's first sofa, Alfred, was born from a leather hide considered too thick for furniture by the tanneries that supplied it, a "mistake" that became the prototype for everything else that followed.

A self-confessed architecture nerd, the comedian, writer, television presenter and, most recently, podcaster, Tim Ross, is on a mission to share his love of design with the world, one spoon, lamp, chair, building and city at a time. More Space caught up with him to chat about 'Tim & Kev's Big Design Adventure', the power of niche content, all the fun he's having working with Kevin McLeod, the universal things that connect us, and his orange KD28 lamp by Joe Colombo.
How Gallotti&Radice’s artisanal roots are shaping their vision for the future
Founded in the late 1950s by Pierangelo Gallotti and Luigi Radice in Cermenate near Lake Como in northern Italy, today Gallotti&Radice is led by the second generation of both founding families. With the early years built on a shared passion for glass, that artistic focus has established the brand as one of Italy’s most respected luxury furniture houses. As Gallotti&Radice marks 70 years with the exhibition ‘Tales in Glass’ at Milan’s historic Palazzo Meli Lupi di Soragna, Space welcomes the celebrated Italian design brand to its collection. More Space Journal recently interviewed designer and CEO Silvia Gallotti about the influences of growing up in the Gallotti&Radice family closely connected to the world of design, and how the mastery of glass is shaping their vision for what comes next.
